Location and Layout
The Tashkent Railway Museum is conveniently located close to the Tashkent North train station, making it easily accessible for both locals and tourists. Stretching for almost a kilometer, the museum’s layout is rather narrow, featuring two rows of old trains and carriages that you can explore, and in some cases, even climb inside.
Live Action on Weekends
Cutting through the center of the two lines of locomotive displays, there’s an active train line.
On weekends, families and children can enjoy a short ride on a locomotive with a single carriage, adding an interactive element to the museum experience. It’s a short but pleasant experience, especially when visiting with children.
Renovation in Progress
During our visit, we noticed that the museum was undergoing some renovations, and the information signs had unfortunately been temporarily taken down.
We spoke to one of the staff members who informed us about their plans to introduce information on touch screens. However, they are currently in the process of securing the necessary funding for this upgrade.

A Diverse Collection
The Tashkent Railway Museum boasts a diverse collection of locomotives, showcasing the evolution of train technology from various parts of the world.
You’ll find 13 steam locomotives, 17 diesel locomotives, 3 electric locomotives, and 10 carriages on display. Among these historic machines is the oldest locomotive, dating back to 1914, which has even made appearances in several films.
For Enthusiasts and Families
The museum caters to different interests, making it a worthwhile visit for both steam train enthusiasts and families. If you plan to visit with children, we recommend coming on a Saturday or Sunday when the live locomotive experience is available for a touch of hands-on adventure.

How to Get to Tashkent Railway Museum
To reach the Tashkent Railway Museum, you can head to the Tashkent metro station near Tashkent North train station. From there, it’s just a short two-minute walk outside the metro station to the right, followed by crossing the street.
If you’re using a taxi app, you might find it listed as the ‘Museum of Railway Engineering.’
