Tashkent

Tashkent, the capital city of Uzbekistan, is the metropolitan hub of the country and blends old and new Uzbekistan.

Visitors to the city can explore traditional life at Chorsu Bazaar, see one of the oldest Quran copies at the Hazrati Imam complex, and ride through some of the world’s most unique underground stations on the Tashkent metro.

In this article we share some of the best tours in Tashkent, including city tours as well as day trips and excursions.

Tashkent City Tour

Explore Tashkent’s old and new with the most popular Tashkent city walking tour passing through all of Tashkent’s main landmarks including Amir Timur Museum and Square, Chorsu Bazaar, the Hazrati Imam Ensemble, and much more.

This is the most comprehensive tour of Tashkent, visiting the mosques, bazaars, and museums which give Tashkent its unique identity. The tour also includes a traditional Tashkent lunch at the famous Plov Center.

Relax and enjoy the city with covered transportation, entry fees, and hotel pickup included.

It’s an action packed tour covering all the main attractions of the city so you won’t miss out.

Tashkent Soviet Walking Tour

This is an alternative Tashkent city tour exploring Tashkent’s Soviet history via its architecture and art. Tashkent was (and still very much is) an urban Soviet-style city, with a skyline of concrete block buildings, giant mosaics, and Constructivist and Brutalist architecture.

This tour takes you through some of the city’s most iconic landmarks of recent history including the Palace of Duke Romanov, the Monument of Courage, and some of the most beautiful metro stations with a local expert.

Review:This was an excellent way to see some of the Soviet architecture and explore the city’s history in general. Mirvoxid was fantastic and very helpful, one of the best tour guides you will ever find“. Read More Reviews

Traditional Mahalla Tour

This is a very traditional tour of Tashkent, including a visit to an Uzbek neighborhood known as a mahalla.

Traditional Uzbek life is very family-oriented and an invite to a mahalla offers a glimpse into the tightly-knit bonds and warm hospitality that define the heart and soul of Uzbekistan’s vibrant communal life.

Witness the daily rituals of a traditional Uzbek family, discover the religious significance at Ensemble Hazrati Imam, and stroll through the vibrant Chorsu Bazaar. Immerse yourself in the art of Uzbekistan’s traditional fabrics at a local workshop, and conclude your day at Rakhimov’s Ceramic Studio, engaging with master ceramists whilst enjoying tea and oriental sweets.

This tour will appeal to those looking for a cultural exploration of Tashkent.

Review:This is one of the best and most organised tours I have ever taken. Mikhail helped me arrange my travels in Uzbekistan and was very responsive on emails and messages. Mikhail was recommended to me by a friend who had previously visited Uzbekistan… I have no hesitation in recommending Mikhail to anyone who wants to travel in Central Asia“. Read More Reviews…

Tashkent Food Tours

Each region in Uzbekistan, including Tashkent, has its unique take on Uzbek cuisine. Plov, the national dish, is prepared in Tashkent with variations such as chickpeas and raisins, served alongside quail eggs and horse sausage, kazy.

At present there’s no affordable and highly-rated general Tashkent food tour so for a DIY food tour we recommend heading to Chorsu Bazaar, Alay Bazaar, and the Plov Center where you can find all types of freshly cooked Uzbek street food. There are plenty of cheap Uzbek restaurants in Tashkent where you can try plov, shashlik and somsa.

Vegan Food Tour

For a more specialized food tour consider Uzbekistan’s only vegan food tour. I met Akmal, the organizer, who is a local expert in plant-based Uzbek street food.

The tour takes you through Tashkent’s farmers’ markets, sampling all kinds of freshly prepared hot snacks whilst listening to Akmal’s anecdotes and city knowledge.

Despite being a vegan food tour, most of his clients are not actually vegans!

Review:Pleasant vegan tour in Tashkent at the beginning of our Uzbek trip. It gave me the opportunity to visit nice markets and get introduced to tasty vegan food, which is so hard to find in Uzbekistan“. Read More Reviews…
